Fetal & Pregnancy Health

How do We Support High-Risk Pregnancies?

Our Fetal and Pregnancy Health Program coordinates care for expectant mothers pregnant with babies who have been diagnosed with a high-risk fetal condition. We also specialize in treating placental disorders. Our program provides a single point of entry for families and referring physicians to access the full range of specialty care at Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford – one of the few hospitals in the country where obstetric, delivery, neonatal, and pediatric services are nested under one roof. We receive 600-700 referrals each year.

Multidisciplinary, collaborative care for mothers and babies

The Fetal and Pregnancy Health Program has developed a multidisciplinary approach to perinatal care that draws on expertise from a variety of specialties at Stanford Medicine Children’s Health, including Neonatology, Maternal-Fetal Medicine (MFM), Fetal and Pediatric Radiology, Perinatal Genetics, General Surgery, Cardiology and Cardiothoracic Surgery, Urology, Nephrology, Neurology, and Neurosurgery, among others. We practice family-centered care, including and supporting families as integral members of the care team.

Innovative, advanced maternal-fetal diagnostics and therapies

Since its multidisciplinary founding in 2009, led by neonatologist and Director Susan Hintz, MD, MS Epi, the Fetal and Pregnancy Health Program has utilized and advanced an impressive array of diagnostic and treatment approaches. Our participation in leading-edge clinical trials and studies, including through membership in the North American Fetal Therapy Network, puts us at the forefront of innovation. Diagnostic and therapeutic approaches we offer include (and are not limited to).
